OK,OK, OK... We know you are sick and tired of baguettes with cheese! Smashed! Stomach Saviours to the rescue!!!! You CAN eat decent food at reasonable costs here in Barca.
NB. These places DID NOT pay us to mention their names! We just reckon that TRAVELLERS ON A BUDGET will find the food at these places YUMMY for the TUMMY, without forking out a STASH of CASH!
COOKING YOURSELF
Stack up on fresh fruit and vegies at the BOQUERIA MARKET. Make sure you don't buy from the more expensive stalls at the entrance of the market. Go in and GET LOST. (We mean that in no offensive manner)
NUBAA (paseo colon 11)
Burgers are best in town (well, maybe behind Hard Rock Cafe...but much cooler setting!)
TRAVEL BAR (calle boqueria 27)
Very good pub food. Full Irish breakfast and 1€ Dinner for backpackers!!!
QUINZE NITS (Plaza Real)
see that MASSIVE queue in Pl.Real? It's there for 2 reasons...first, people that have NO FUCKING IDEA of what's inside, but figure it must be good if there's such a big queue...and second, those that do know, and they know that it is mighty fine food, at cheap rates, and in highly plush surrounds. Just the place to come if you have found the love of your life in Barcelona and you want to have a high-class dinner without breaking the bank...before going back and having low-class sex in the hostel dorm room! If the line is too long then there is another just-as-good-but-with-not-such-a-long-line one called La Fonda. One street DOWN from Pl.Reial (c/Escudellers).
POLLO RICO (c/Hospital - just off La Rambla)
Chicken & Chips and other stuff for just a few euros.
DRUNKEN MUNCHIES
6am stumbling around La Rambla...if you're not too blind, then stumble down c/Nou de La Rambla and then 1st left, and you will see a whole bunch of people STUFFING THEIR FACE with a BOX-FULL OF PASTRY for just 1 euro. No Bull-Shit...this is a drunkard's dream!
THE BAGEL SHOP (c/Canuda 25)
For the Americans & Canucks out there. We know that you love them!
TAPAS
We have to disappoint you. If you're after a typical Spanish Tapas experience, then you ain't gonna get it here in Barcelona. Go down south for that. You're in Catalunya, and the Catalans don't get in to the Tapas thing. Having said that there are some set up to sucker in the ignorant tourist...probably the best one is LES TAPAS (just near Pl. Jaume), mainly for its cute little doll-house look and feel about it.
GRACIA
This area is well worth checking out. It's away from the HOARDES OF TOURISTS, is TRENDY, and has a huge variety of WORLD FOOD...Lebanese, Greek, Japanese blah, blah.
JUICY JONES
For Veggies... This place is way cool...graffiti painted and funky tunes pumping, with sexy staff too (c/Cardenal Casanas). Organic (c/de la Junta de Comerç) is another.
MAOZ
An EXPERIENCE...that's what it is at MAOZ. Make YOUR OWN falafel...stuff in as much as you can before stuffing it down! Quality!!!
KEBABS
Fucked if we know what the difference is between a Shawarma and a Pita... but we DO KNOW where the best ones are: Kapadokya, just opposite the post office would have to be the best in the world!
BIKINI'S
so you might be a little disappointed when you don't receive a sexy senorita on your plate, but ham & cheese toasties .....
Sushi train. This is not its real name (we can't remember what it is called, and can't be bothered going down the road to check...what's in a name anyway?)
JAPANESE
just around the corner from Travel Bar. Nothing fancy and small. But JAPANESE FOOD ROCKS! Or head to the Sushi Train. This is not its real name, but it has a train constantly stacked with stacks of asian dishes that you just pluck off at will. All you can eat lunch deal is well worth it (in between NuBaa and the Post office)
BORNE
This area is abound of cool spots. Albeit somewhat costlier. We aren't going to recommend any in particular 'cos we are tired of typing and wanna go have a beer (this is the truth).
